Pelvic Pain and Kegels

Pelvic pain affects a staggering 25% of women, especially young women and even teenagers. It also affects nearly one in 10 men.

This sort of pain can make life miserable when the simple pleasures of life hurt - like having a pee or emptying the bowels or sex. But it is an embarrassing problem. We aren’t good at talking about things below the belt and it’s hard to know where to go for help.

At Flex we have three pelvic health physiotherapists who are trained to help with exactly this sort of pain. Of course it is important to make sure that there isn’t something serious going on, so you need to have a medical check first to rule this out.

Often, pelvic floor muscles that are too tight can be making pelvic pain worse. Yes, it is possible to be doing the wrong thing and tightening the pelvic floor, when it should be trained to relax and loosen. There are many things that can be making pelvic pain worse and that’s where our expertise at Flex can help. Our pelvic health physiotherapists are all trained to assess pelvic floor muscles and all the other things that could be making pelvic pain worse – and working out a comprehensive treatment plan that really works.

One of our pelvic health physiotherapists, Dr Trish Neumann, has produced some online resources to train relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles. Click here to find out more about these downloads for men and women.

We can  provide the expert help you need for pelvic pain and get you on the road to recovery.
